Zhangjiajie City - Zhangjiajie Travel GuideZhangjiajie is named after the Zhangjiajie Scenic Area. In 1979 Zhangjiajie was established as the first national park forest in China. In 1992, Wulingyuan Nature Reserve, including Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Emperor Mountain Reserve and Suoxi Gully Reserve, was listed as a World Natural Heritage Site by UNESCO. In 1994, Dayong was renamed Zhangjiajie. Now, Zhangjiajie is a large, important tourist resort where mountains, lakes, caves and historical culture and special customs are combined in an area of 500 square kilometers. The region has a population of 1.6 million, with minorities like Tujia, Bai, and Miao accounting for 77 percent of the total.

Climate

Zhangjiajie is located at the northwest part of Hunan Province. The city belongs to the subtropical humid monsoon climate area. It has plenty sunshine, heavy rains, a long frost-free period and four distinct seasons. Zhangjiajie enjoys a pleasant climate making tourism activities possible all year round.
