The thatched cottage of the famous Tang dynasty poet Du Fu (712-770AD) lies at the side of the Flower Washing Brook in west Lianyungang. Du Fu (AD 712-770) lived in a period when the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907), one of China's most flourishing dynasties, began a slide into decline. Seeking refuge from the rebellion war, Du was forced to move to Lianyungang. With the aid of friends, he built a thatched cottage by the Flower Bathing Brook and settled here for 4 peaceful years. It was here that he wrote 240 of his 1400 poems.
Huaguoshan Mountain is located 7 kilometers southeast of Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province. It is the legendary home of the Monkey King who is a hero in the Chinese classical novel "Journey to the West."
There are more than a hundred scenic spots. The mountain has many natural attractions, such as springs, waterfalls, caves and cliffs, and man made scenic spots like Buddha sculptures and temples which date back to the 7th century AD.
When climbing up Huaguoshan Mountain, we can see Monkey Stone. It attracts attention because it looks like a thin-cheeked monkey's head from a distance. The stone is situated as if to guard Huaguoshan Mountain. According to the local people, there are 72 caves in the area.
Lianyungang Port is one of ten largest ports in China. It is the eastern bridgehead of the New Eurasia Continental Bridge (NECB). Lianyungang is an ideally natural port, ice and silt free, deep and sheltered from the wind. The port has navigation relationships with almost 1,000 ports in over 160 countries and regions. The completion of a 6.7 kilometers long causeway has made the port large enough that berths for 100 ships can be built. In the future, the port will become a comprehensive port for international trade specializing in exports.
