Dazu Grottoes
Built continuously from the first year of the reign of Emperor Yonghui of the Tang Dynasty (650) to the Qing Dynasty, Dazu Stone Carvings' Grottoes represent a beautiful gem in the grotto arts of China. Located in Dazu County, 81 kilometers by expressway, west of the city proper of Chongqing, the stone carvings of Dazu, chiefly consisting of Buddhists images, are the art of religious nature. The Dazu Grottoes spread across more than 75 sites in the county, and contain over 50,000 stone sculptures. They are mainly located on Baoding (Treasure Peak) Mountain, Beishan (Northern) Mountain, Shimen (Stone Gate) Mountain, Nanshan (Southern) Mountain, and Shizhuan Mountain.

The People's Great Hall is a large complex including the Auditorium, Peoples' Square and People's Hotel. A column-supported building with big dome 55 meters high and flanked with wings is its centerpiece. After its erection in 1953, it was named the Sino-Soviet Building except the red star topped the dome that was the copy of that of the Kremlin. The Chongqing People's Hall is an architectural symbol of Chongqing. It was designed in the traditional symmetrical and beautifully proportioned style of Ming and Qing dynasties' palaces. It has the area of 25,000 square meters.

Beishan Hill Grotto
Dazu County, Beishan Hill Grotto boasts almost ten thousand sculptures first built here in 892 AD and gradually added over the years. At one spot up here, Fowan, there are some 290 grottoes filled with impressive stone sculptures. On the 300-meter-long, 7-meter-high slope, sculptures and carvings depicting the lives of local people throughout the ages can be seen. The northern section of the hill is home to works dating to the late Tang Dynasty while the southern half contains art from the Southern and Northern Song Dynasties.
