Yangshuo West Street is located in northeastern part of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and 63 kilometers south of the capital city, Guilin. When you get off the Li River cruise ship at the dock in Yangshuo, you will see a long street in front of you. It is one of the earliest tourist attractions which are reputed as a "Scenic Spot on the National Level." West Street is the most prosperous area in Yangshuo; it attracts many visitors from home and abroad every year because of its unique culture and human sights.
The street is dating back over 1,400 years. Yangshuo West Street was built in 590AD during the Sui Dynasty; the street has experienced much wind and rain, but is well preserved. Today, it still can reveal the resplendence of past days vividly. Since it has opened to outside in 1978, the unique "Foreigners Street" has appeared in Chinese people's eyes. West Street also called 'Foreigners' Street'. West Street has seen numerous foreigners from all over the world and it was reputed to be "Earth Village in China".
Nowadays, the 2000-m-long street has over 300 cafes, restaurants, hotels art crafts and tourist stores, foreign language clubs, internet centers and Kufu schools. It's an ideal place to eat, shop, entertain, study or just take a break. West Street is filled with small shops and trader's stands selling all kinds of souvenirs and snacks. Chinese young people and young Western bicyclists often eat western food in local restaurant. Much delicious food can only find in West Street. International tourists feel at home here because everyone speaks fluent English and restaurants and bars provide menus in several languages.
West street are combined with many sorts of food culture, including western bars, cafes and restaurants, Chinese art shops and clothes stalls. Tourists will find a mixed world of authentic Italian coffee, English sign boards and traditional Chinese painting and porcelain works. Do not be surprised when you see an elderly Chinese woman speaking fluent English with a couple foreigners in different colors. This simple country street is a very common place in the Chinese people's eyes, but as for foreigners, they think they can spend their happy time through wondering this ancient street. Gradually, some young teenagers choose to western bar spending their tedious life, it is likely very fashionable. Foreigners also like to take a break from their exciting and busy travel schedules and enjoy either a cup of the authentic Italian coffee or Chinese tea.
