Xi'an-Xianyang International Airport was built in 1991. It is located approximately 45 km northeast of downtown Xi'an. It operates direct flights to and from major cities in China. It has direct flights to Tokyo, Bangkok, Hong Kong, and Singapore. The airline shuttle bus (6:30am-7:30pm, RMB25) runs between the airport and Xi'an city. It costs RMB 80-120 to take a taxi.
By Train
Xi'an railway station is located north of Xi'an city, just outside the city wall. It is the major terminus on the west-east line of China. All major cities in China can be reached by train from Xi'an.
By Taxi
Taxis in Xi'an are plentiful and all metered. Generally most taxis charge a base fee of RMB5 during the day and RMB6 from 10pm-6am, with RMB1.4 for each additional kilometer. Most taxi drivers don't speak English. Before you set off from the hotel, ask the bellboy to write down where you're going in both English and Chinese.
By Bicycle
There are bicycles for rent in most hotels in Xi'an, the rental averages RMB10-20 per day with RMB300 or passport as deposit.
