The city produces a splendid local wine from its seedless white Turpan grapes. The famous Hami melon is also well worth a taste. Other major agricultural products include wheat, sorghum, cotton, grapes, peanuts, oil-bearing crops, melon and vegetables. Turpan is an agricultural oasis, famed above all for grapes.
This city is also well-known for "Atlas" fabric, a kind of silk woven with intricate and unique patterns that Uighur and Uzbek women like to use for their dresses.
