An overland journey to Everest Base Camp

An overland journey to Everest Base Camp Tour Features: Ever wanted to climb to the top of the world, but don't have the legs for it? Well this tour will satisfy that desire, by the seat of your pants. We will travel to Mt Everest Base Camp during this tour in a motor car via Shigatse. You will get to experience all 16,900ft of glory at the Base Camp, and even see the Rongbuk Glacier. The tour starts at Lhasa, the capital of the mystical Buddhist Kingdom of Tibet. Experience and see what life is like on top of the world. Here you will visit two of the most famous sites built in the 7th century by the famous Tibetan King, Songtzen Gampo. These are Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple, the latter being the most sacred place in all of Tibet. Also while in Lhasa you will get to experience the "Hill of Rice", which is noted as being the largest monastery in Asia. Upon leaving Lhasa we will stop of at Gyantze, the once fortified city at the junction of the two major caravan routes (India and Nepagl). We will then pass the giant YamdrokYamtso Lake which is a holy lake of the Tibetan people, and then see the ten-thousand Buddhist Pagoda. In preparation for the unforgettable drive to Mt Everest Base Camp, we will have a rest and let you adjust to the amazing scenery and landscape. The pinnacle of our adventure is Mt Everest Base Camp. Day 01 Lhasa arrive (B)

Fly to the holy city of Lhasa, capital of the mystical Buddhist Kingdom of Tibet. Locked away in its mountain fortress of the Himalayas, Tibet has had a unique hold on the imagination of the West. You are greeted by tour guide at the airport and transferred to hotel.

Day 02 Lhasa (B, D)

Potala PalaceTour starts from the religious Potala Palace built in the 7th century by the famous Tibetan king-Songtzen Gampo. The present one was built by the 5th Dalai Lama in the 17th century. It became known as the "Winter Palace" by the 1750, when the 7th Dalai Lama built the Norbulingka Park as his summer residence. After lunch, you will visit Jokhang Temple, situated in the old section of Lhasa. King Songtzen Gampo built this temple in the mid-7th century A.D. Now it is the most sacred place in Tibet. Pilgrims come here to pay homage from all over Tibet. Tonight you will have a chance to stroll on Barkhor Street to mingle in the crowds and enjoy the market activity.

Day 03 Lhasa (B)

Full day sightseeing takes you to Drepung Monastery. "Drepung" in Tibetan means "the hill of rice", because this white Monastery looks like a big hill of rice. This monastery occupies an area of 150,000 square meters with 7700 lamas and becomes the largest monastery in Asia. After enjoying a local Tibet-style lunch, you will visit Sera Monastery. Sera means 'Hailstone' in Tibetan, and legend tells that it hailed during the foundation of this famous monastery.

Day 04 Lhasa / Gyantze / Shigatse (B)

Drive to Gyantze, the once fortified city at the junction of two major caravan routes: one to India and the other to Nepal. Pass the giant Yamdrok Yamtso Lake, the holy lake of the Tibetan people. Visit the Palkhor Monastery and the ten-thousand-Buddhist Pagoda. Then continue drive to Shigatse and check in the hotel.

Day 05 Shigatse / Tingri (B)

Tashilhunpo MonasteryAfter breakfast, you will. After a rest from the drive, visit the Tashilhunpo Monastery, the traditional seat of the Panchen Lama who is the second holiest man in Tibet. Travel through the Western part of Tibet to get to Tingri. The scenery along the way is really fantastic. Check into hotel and have a rest. The rest of the day will be at leisure for you to relax and make preparation for the sightseeing next day.

Day 06 Tingri / Base Camp / Shigatse (B)

Hike to the Everest Base Camp via the famous Rongbuk Monastery, located half-way up the mile-wide, 20-mile long valley at 16,500 feet, is accessible today by vehicle over rugged road. Then drive to the Mt. Everest Base Camp. Everest Base Camp (16,900 ft) and the Rongbuk Glacier are approximately 2-3 hrs above the monastery. The route passes retreat caves, the ruins of the nunnery of Sherab Chholing and the fast flowing Dzaka Chu. Drive back to Shigatse in the evening.

Day 07 Shigatse / Lhasa (B)

Drive back to Lhasa and enjoy a leisure day.

Day 08 Lhasa departure (B)

Transfer to airport and board your departure flight to next destination. Service completes.
