The Drum-Tower located at Mapang village, in the north of Sanjiang County, is a masterpiece of Dong ethnic architecture. The tower with nine levels is more than 20 meters high. There are four indoor pillars and a main hall with a beautiful Dong country landscape painted on the inside of the tower. Other paintings can be seen in the tower, bright colored dragons and phoenix, flowers, legendary figures, and geometric patterns.
The tower is a multi-eave wooden structure, in a square, hexagonal shape. Originally it was built in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and rebuilt in 1943. The Mapang Drum-Tower is the largest and most typical drum-tower in the Dong minority region of Guangxi province.
The drum-tower is also a place where the villagers gather on March 3rd and June 6th each year to celebrate.
