Beidaihe Scenic Spot
Beidaihe Scenic Spot, located in the southwest of Qinhuangdao city, Hebei province, is one of the most visited summer resorts in China. Thousands of tourists swarm into this area to enjoy the beaches, ocean, moderate weather and wonderful environment. Along the Beidaihe, you can enjoy the broad sea and soft beach. The weather here is neither too hot in summer nor too cold in winter, so it’s a year-round tourist resort. The long coastline and wide, sandy beaches are a great place for sunning, swimming and relaxing. The Beidaihe area is beautiful. Mt. Lianfeng, with its two peaks, overlooks the beach, and there is a park at its base called Lotus Stone Park. A small temple, Guanyin Temple, is located in the park. Wanghaiting (Seaside Pavilion) and Yinjiao Pavilion provide a couple of lovely spots for viewing the sunrise.
Golden Beach
The 52.1-kilometre-long Golden beach is located southwest of the Beidaihe area. Its fine sand and shallow, calm, clear water make it a great place for swimming.
West of the Golden Beach, sand dunes stretch 40 kilometers against a green belt of woodland. Some sand dunes are 30-40 meters high, which is very rare in coastal areas. Sliding down these hills is a popular activity.
Tourists can enjoy other entertainment such as shooting, horse racing and even yacht racing.
Mengjiangnu Temple
When people appreciate the grandeur of the Great Wall, many think about those who built it and how they did it. Numerous people were killed or lost loved ones during this seemingly everlasting project. The Mengjiangnu Temple story of Mengjiangnu, a woman famed for her loyalty to her husband, is particularly remembered.
Mengjiangnu was married in Nanjing of East China's Jiangsu Province, but soon after the wedding her husband was sent to the north to help build the wall. As winter drew near, the woman left her hometown with a bundle of clothes, in order to find her husband.
Shanhaiguan Pass
Shanhaiguan, located between the Yanshan Mountains and the Bohai Sea, is also called Shanhaiguan Pass. It is a small town and port on the northern Bohai gulf, 15 kilometers from the tourist city of Qinhuangdao.
Shanhaiguan is the ancient town where the Great Wall meets the sea. It was built in 1381 during the Ming Dynasty. At that time, it was a strategic military post. People consider it to be the number 1 pass on the Great Wall and it played an important role in the defense of two ancient capitals, Beijing in the east, and Chang'an (Xi'an) in the west.
