Firstly built in 1891 and, Zhanqiao Pier is regarded as the symbol of Qingdao. After several restorations, from being a simple military harbor, it is now open to tourists. At the southern end of the 440-meter-loing pier, is a typical Chinese octagonal pavilion called Huilan Pavilion from which you can watch the rolling waves of the sea. Along the shore is the beautiful Pier Park, which is a pleasant and quiet place for tourists to rest or enjoy the scenery of Little Qingdao Isle and its white tower.
At full tide, the billowy surf rolls against the beach, the breakers sending up a fountain of spray. With the ebbing of the tide, appear the brown reefs and yellowish sand, a time for tourists and locals to gather conches and other seashells.
