Kunming Shopping

There is a vast array of shopping outlets in Kunming from department stores to market vendors. Fashionable clothing boutiques can be found along Zhengyi and Qingnian Road. Of the many different items available in Kunming some are distinctive to the area. These include jade, silk, batik, brassware and woodcarvings. Also popular are marble objects that originate in Dali and of course, the famed Yunnan tea and coffee. The Yunnan bronzes are unique because the ancient Yunnan people did not have a written language. Therefore, they used sculpture and carved patterns to show their lives and religious beliefs. In some ways, the bronze objects, including these articles for daily use, can be considered a "history book" of Yunnan. Small shops specializing in products from Yunnan's minority nationalities can be found on the south side of Green Lake on Cuihu Road.
