Dian Lake (Dianchi), 370 square kilometers in area, 44 meters deep, and 1,885 meters in elevation, is the eighth largest lake in China and the largest in Yunnan Province. It is also the sixth largest freshwater lake in China, also known as Kunming Lake or Kunming Pond, was formed by the subsidence of a fault zone. It is a highland lake, much treasured both in the light of Kunming's perennial spring weather and the splendid scenic beauty of the Lake District.
