Baling Hill is located in the northwest part of Jiangling County, about 8 kilometers away from the town. It was also called Dragon Hill in ancient times because there are many ancient tombs on the hill, especially from the State of Chu during the Spring and Autumn, the Warring States Period and the Han Dynasty. It is said that there are more than 800 large ancient tombs in Jingzhou City, among which there are 18 tombs of Chu Kings.
According to historical records, King Zhuang of the State of the Chu was buried on the hill, together with ten of his relatives, generals and officials. These tombs serve as a big treasure house with numerous cultural relics.
