Beijing has the widest choice of shopping of anywhere in China. You will find carpets, silk, cloisonné, lacquered items, jade carvings and embroidery. There are five main shopping districts. Most of the shops accept major international credit cards, but credit-card service fees may be charged.

Xiu Shui Market

Description: Also known as Silk Alley. Best buys are silk garments and down jackets. Bargain hard and don't expect the designer logos to be authentic.

The Library

Description: Tucked inside the Beijing Hotel, this bookstore has a good selection of English language books. Books about China, Beijing, Chinese phrase books and doing business in the country, as well as English-language magazines and newspapers are available.

The Courtyard Gallery (Siheyuan)

Description: Displays works by contemporary Chinese artists in all media. It also has a world-class fusion restaurant.

Wan Fung Art Gallery

Description: Housed in what was formerly the Imperial Archives, this gallery exhibits traditional paintings and sculptures by Chinese artists.

China World Shopping Mall
