Location

Jingdezhen City - Jingdezhen Travel GuideJingdezhen City, once known as the porcelain capital of China, is located on a tributary of the Changhe River, south of the Yangtze. Situated between the Huangshan mountain range and the plains of Poyang Lake, the largest freshwater lake in China, the city is a patchwork of rivers and hills. The city covers a total area of 5,200 square km, with a population of 1.4 million.

History

Jingdezhen is an ancient city with a long history and magnificent culture. The city's reputation for producing fine porcelain began in the Eastern Han Dynasty. During the Song Dynasty the Jingdezhen workshop was commissioned to produce porcelain for the imperial court.

Climate

Located in the northeast Jiangxi Province, in the transitional area between the Huangshan Mountain-Huaiyushan Mountain ranges and the plains of Poyang Lake, Jingdezhen City enjoys a monsoon subtropical climate. Its climate is characterized by adequate sunshine, sufficient rainfall and obvious distinctions between the four seasons. The annual average temperature in the city is 17 C. (67F).

Places to visit

Tourists can visit the famous ceramic clay producing area at Kaolin, and see more than 30 ceramics kiln ruins around the city-- the ruins of the ancient Hutian kiln, and the ruin of the royal kilns from the Ming and the Qing Dynasties.

Besides, the ceramic ruins there are other sites of interest. Perfectly preserved clusters of Ming and Qing buildings; the old Sanlu Temple, Quyuan, the red tower where the first emperor in the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang once hid during a battle, the Moon Lake, and the Lijushan Mountains, all attract thousands of tourists each year.
