Huaxi (Flowery River) park is 15km from the city centre of Guiyang where the Miao, Bouyi and Dong nationalities live in compact communities. The Flowery River, the Core of the entire scenic area, greets visitors at the entrance and accompanies them all the way into the park. There is a lot of enchanting scenery here including green trees and all kinds of flowers. Huaxi brook runs across the four mountains of the kylin, the phoenix, the tortoise and the snake with the Bashang Bridge, Fangge Bridge, South Lake and Shongbai Park scattered among them. All of these make the scenery elaborately and naturally designed. Meanwhile, there are many villages sitting outside the park where you can enjoy the local customs. After climbing to the top of the Kylin Mountain, you can enjoy the entire wonderful scenery of the park and the surrounding countryside. Summer is the best time to visit this park owing to the fresh air and comfortable climate.
At Furongzhou (Hibiscus Sandbar), a huge rock in the middle of the river blocks the current, creating the two-fold Taohuatan Waterfall Further ahead, at each end of a bridge, stands an exquisitely built villa, where many noted cultural, political and military persons stayed during the 1940s. Among them were Ba Jin, Zhou Enlai, Dong Biwu, He Long, He Long, Chiang Kaishek, Feng Yuxiang and Bai Chongxi
