Huangguoshu Waterfall

Guiyang Huangguoshu Waterfall, Guiyang Attractions, Guiyang Travel GuideThe Huangguoshu Waterfall measures 74 meters high and 81 meters wide and boasts the biggest of its kind in China and also one of the world's most magnificent. The waterfall is situated over the Baishui River, 15 kilometers From the Zhenning county seat, and 137 kilometers from Guiyang. A visit to Huangguoshu Waterfalls is a must for all visitors to Guizhou. It has become a holiday resort where you can forget the outside world and enjoy fabulous scenes and sights, including limestone caves and stone forests. The trip is also tainted with ethnic flavor with a visit to the local Buoyei people. Local legend says that in ancient times the sky suddenly cracked open, causing part of the Milky Way to smash to pieces on the ground. The largest piece hung on the verge of a cliff and became the Huangguoshu Waterfalls, which, in the process of crashing down the cliff, broke into several dozen cascades. When the Milky Way fell, numerous stars came down with it, which were converted into stone forests, crystal-clear pools, bridges and caves.

During the flood season, it looks like the Milky Way pouring down, making the precipitous cliffs trembling, while mist of water droplets rising from the pond. The water rolls down to Xiniu Tan like ten thousand horses galloping and shakes the ground and the hill. The breakers send up a fountain of spray adding more mystiques to this place. It is particularly superb when rainbows arch from the plunge pool of the waterfall under the shining sun. All these will make you profoundly affected. However, in dry season, water would separate into several streams falling down from the overhanging cliffs like a fairy maiden's elegant hair, charming and graceful. On top of the precipice opposite the waterfall stands the Pavilion for Enjoying the Waterfall. There is a 134 meters long water-curtain cave behind the waterfall down to the foot. Being in it, one can see the plunging water like numberless strings of pearls flying down over one's head and also the rainbows in the fine drizzle. It is really a spectacular view!

In the middle part of the falls a cave arches into the cliff-side and is fancifully curtained by a sheet of water. There are other falls in the areas such as Luositan Waterfall and Yinlianzhui Waterfall. In addition, there are more than 10 caverns and Tianxinqiao Stone Forest, with stalactites and stalagmites of curious shapes. The best time to visit the falls is June to early October after the rains. Still undeveloped for tourism, Huangguoshu Waterfalls are ideal spots to appreciate the beauty of nature

The scene of Huangguoshu Waterfall changes while you are standing in different places. One place is Waterfall-Viewing Pavilion (Guan Bao Ting), from which you can see the whole fall in distance. Next is Water-Viewing Pavilion (Guan Shui Ting), where you take a bird's-eye view of it. The third one is Waterfall-Viewing Stage (GuanBao Tai) beside Xiniu Tan, in which you raise your head to see the splendid scene. The best place is Little Moon Stage (Xiao Yue Tai) behind Water-Curtain Cave (Shui Lian Dong) where you could see it, touch it and enjoy it. Between nine o'clock to eleven o'clock every morning in clear days, you may see a rainbow sometimes you may see two.
