These tours were worth their weight in gold. I did Forbidden city, temple of heaven, summer palace one day and Mutianyu part of the wall another. Both guides were friendly and knowledgeable. Their English is excellent, but you have to listen carefully as they are of course not native speakers, but native Chinese people with great insight into the ins and outs of the attractions and area. They tell you what you are looking at but most importantly what lines to stand in, they get the tickets for you, they get you dropped off in an air conditioned van and lead you around--also on the hottest day they know where the shady spots are and best picture taking points with fewer crowds (forbidden city). The lunch is tasty and just about right. Remember to bring snacks and plenty of water for the van, or just purchase along the way. There are shopping stops, (which subsidize the excellent price) but they were all interesting and I did not feel pressured to buy anything. I got the foot massage at the Chinese medicine stop---totally worth it. I also enjoyed the tea tasting ceremony. The jade carving was amazing and the pearl factory was ok as well. Shopping stops are air conditioned too which is wonderful on hot days like the two I had. Enjoy being in China and talking to your fellow tourists and guide. Relax and have fun!
