It is good to hear from you. We are very interested to hear more about your Silk Road trip as that is something we may be interested in doing ourselves in the future!
Our trip to Tibet was great and our guide was very good. He was fairly knowledgeable, and although his English was not perfect, it was pretty good and he was very patient in explaining all the things we were seeing. He even showed us a few interesting places in the old city where we had some very good sweet tea. The driver was good and his van was comfortable. They picked up some others along the way but that was not a problem for us. The hotel was okay - it was clean and the breakfast was good and in a great location.
The itinerary was scheduled just right. At the time we were wondering why our flights were so early, but it allowed us more time to adjust to the altitude and to have another full day to spend enjoying Chengdu after. We especially enjoyed the 4th day seeing Lake Namtso. The scenery was beautiful from Lhasa to the lake. When we arrived we had the good fortune of the morning snow clearing up, leaving us with blue skies and snow covered mountains in the afternoon. Absolutely breathtaking. The oxygen tank that was included helped that day. We were also very appreciative of the guide and driver's their flexibility in not rushing us from leaving Namtso. We ended up staying 4 hours there.
Overall it was a wonderful trip. We enjoyed Tibet a lot and took many nice pictures. Our own initial itinerary in Chengdu was a bit ambitious, so we ended up going to Mt Emei and staying overnight in a monastery, but we skipped the trip to Lanzhong.
