I will send you a E Mails over the next few days with some different aspects of our trip rather than trying to say just how much we enjoyed it all , in one long letter.
I thought that I'd run through the Hotels we stayed in first . Travel between cities in the second etc. and finish with a review of our overall experience.I hope that by doing it this way, it may be of more help to you.
Holiday Inn Downtown Beijing 3 Nights : Excellent Hotel - Staff at reception were very helpful and spoke good English. The location was very good and near to a Shopping Mall and Market Mall. Our room was well appointed , clean and in good decoration. Breakfast was varied , Chinese and Western and good quality.
Garden Hotel Datong 1 Night : Excellent Hotel - Staff at reception were very helpful and spoke good English . The location was a bit strange. It was very central , only 3 minutes from the station. Visitors traveling to Datong may not realise that this City is undergoing massive change and modernisation. The Hotel is situated in a street which has largely been demolished. The Hotel appearance was welcoming and the interior was nearly the best we visited on our trip.
Our room was immaculate , spacious and very tastefully decorated.Breakfast was varied , Chinese and Western and good quality.
Xian Aurum International Hotel 3 nights : Excellent Hotel - Staff at reception were very helpful and spoke good English. The location was excellent and our 19th floor room afforded an excellent view over a Square and the City skyline. Our room was modern , spacious and very well appointed.Chinese and Western breakfast choices were of good quality.
Jing'an Peony Plaza Hotel Luoyang 1 night . Poor Quality Hotel ( W'ed give it 2 stars only ) Staff at reception were very pleasant and spoke good English. The Hotel location was fine.
This Hotel looked like it may have been good a few years back but our room was very tired and badly in need of re-decoration. The corridors were also a bit shabby and in need of decoration. Although everything looked clean it was disappointing to wash and shower in a bathroom with lots of cracked tiles and poor shower flow. The food choices were mostly Chinese at Breakfast and the atmosphere was cigarette smoke in many areas of the Hotel.
Would not recommend this Hotel.
Guilin Park Hotel 1 night : Excellent Hotel - Staff pleasant and helpful , spoke good English. Very nice location with good walks close by. Our room was well appointed . The Breakfast choices Chinese and Western were very good.
Yangshuo Jasper International Hotel 1 night : Excellent Hotel ( 5 Star quality ! ) - Staff very helpful and pleasant , spoke good English. Location was not central but easy regular Hotel transfers and bus links to West Street . Our room was magnificently appointed and the dining area was brand new ! This Hotel only opened last year so it was bound to be in good condition , but a must if you like a bit of luxury. Breakfast was excellent !
Longsheng Hot Springs Hotel 1 night : Good Hotel ( 3 star quality ) Staff were helpful but a bit stressed with the number of tourists. Hotel was a bit tired in appearance and in need of some tender loving care ! It was clean and tidy but it obviously has a very large throughput of visitors. It was very busy and we were visiting low season. I suspect this area does not have many hotels ? The Hot Springs were a novelty but not relaxing as they were teeming with many tourists ! My evening meal was good, but no one spoke English and the Breakfast in the Spa Restaurant was limited in choice but OK in quality.
Holiday Inn Shifu Guangzhou 1 night : Best located Hotel on our Trip. Excellent Hotel right in the centre of both Modern and Old City and close to Shiamen Island. Our room was well appointed , large and clean .Breakfast was excellent with a large and varied choice of food. Hotel reception staff spoke very good English . A busy but Quality Hotel in a fabulous location. Wish we had stayed here longer !
Newton Place Hotel Hong Kong 3 nights. Good Hotel in good condition but not 4 Star . Bedroom very small but clean and fresh. Shower room very clean but again very small.
More like a Travel Lodge room in the UK. Reception staff very helpful and pleasant ! This Hotel is located in an Industrial District of Kowloon but has good links via the MTR train to the rest of Hong Kong. There is a large Shopping Mall at the nearby Millenium 5 Business Centre. Breakfast was the poorest we experienced on our tour . The staff were poorly dressed and the lady in charge wore the same jeans 3 days running and looked a bit dirty herself . The quality of food was poor and fresh Tea , Coffee and Toast was in short supply. I was thinking of contacting the Hotel myself about this !
