I'm sorry for the delay in my answering your query.
We were quite happy with the trip that you helped us with. Everywhere we were given the impression that the guides would go overboard to help us with whatever we wished to do.
The guide we were with the longest, Tashi in Tibet, was a major asset. He gave us a wonderfully local perspective of the situation in Tibet and helped however and whenever he could. We were happy with our driver, who got us to the Everest Base Camp on a day when other tourists we know were handicapped by the slippery roads after a heavy rainfall.
While the Tibetan scenery was spectacular, it would have been more spectacular had we visited at another time ?in May I guess or in December ?when clouds would not hide the high peaks so often, and ?in Winter ?when snow would be more plentiful. But we were aware of those issues before we left.
The guides in Beijing and Chengdu were also quite fine.
Of the hotels, we particularly liked the Park Plaza Wangfujing in Beijing a wonderful value and quality - and the Sheraton in Chengdu.
We have continued to read and view movies about the area, even after our return home. I intend to give a presentation about China’s regulation of religion? Tibetan Buddhism and Catholicism, to a legal group I belong to that focuses on Asian Affairs. We plan to see the Dali Lama during his visit to New York in a couple of weeks.
